WNCG alumnus Prof. Siddhartha Banerjee has been named a recipient of the National Science Foundation Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award.

Banerjee received his doctorate from Texas ECE in 2013. As a member of WNCG, he was advised by Profs. Sanjay Shakkottai and Sujay Sanghavi. He is currently an Assistant Professor of operations research and information engineering at Cornell University, and he also serves as a technical consultant for popular rideshare service Lyft.

The CAREER program provides up to $500,000 to each recipient over a period of five years. The distinction is NSF’s “most prestigious [award] in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.”

Banerjee’s research focuses on online decision-making and control, economics and computation, and network algorithms.

Cornell University reported that Banerjee will put the grant towards his research on the development of a real-time decision-making theoretical framework. The aim is to “create algorithms that make use of historical data, simulation models and market mechanisms,” and to test these algorithms in several areas of industry, including transportation, finance, and cloud computing.
