WNCG Student Abhishek Gupta recently published his second book on MATLAB, entitled “Numerical Methods Using MATLAB.” Published by Springer Apress, the book provides a practical reference to assist anyone working with numerical methods that use MATLAB.

“Numerical methods have wide applicability across many scientific, mathematical and engineering disciplines and are often employed in situations where finding an exact answer through analytical methods is impractical,” Gupta states.

The book includes a wide range of techniques and demonstrates their coding and applications. While many books on numerical methods discuss theory, Gupta’s book is unique in that it covers real world implementation in detail.

“The most challenging thing about writing a book is to understand the reader’s perspective,” Gupta states. “I wanted to write a book from a student’s perspective, so it was important for me to understand different problems students face when they try to write their first program or simulation.”

According to Gupta, his experience teaching programming classes at various engineering colleges helped him to understand many of the issues students face.

“It feels great to be an author for many reasons,” Gupta states. “When I see my book in a store, it brings a smile to my face. But more importantly, I feel great seeing readers benefit from it, especially when they tell me how it helped with research or projects.”
