CAR-STOP Project Improves Transportation Communication, Safety

Over 80 percent of annual car crashes could be prevented by vehicular  communications, a recent NHTSA report demonstrates. To improve vehicular communications and substantially improve safety benefits for all, TxDOT funded the Communications and Radar-Supported Transportation Operations and Planning (CAR-STOP).

TWS 2016 Announces AT&T and Ericsson World Debut of 5G Tech

RCR Wireless spoke with WNCG Profs. Todd Humphreys and Constantine Caramanis, co-organizers of the Texas Wireless Summit (TWS) 2016. TWS will take place on October 18th at the Blanton Museum of Art Edgar Smith Building on UT Austin's campus. It will focus on the connectivity, sensing and data analytics of automated vehicles. Keynotes, panels and discussions will take place throughout the day. This year's event will feature a special startup showcase.

D-STOP Symposium 2016 Explores Future of Smart Cities

The Data-Supported Transportation Operations and Planning Center (D-STOP) from UT Austin met with representatives from local and state government, academia and industry in early April at a symposium designed to collaborate on the future of Smart Cities. The day-long event explored smart transportation systems, collaborative ecosystems, infrastructure-based technology, regional planning and analytics and connected vehicles through a series of panels featuring experts in the field.

Alumni Yung Yi and Song Chong Receive 2016 IEEE Communications Society William R. Bennett Prize

  Alumni Yung Yi (PhD '06) and Song Chong (PhD '95) received the 2016 IEEE Communications Society William R. Bennett Prize for their paper "Mobile Data Offloading: How Much Can WiFi Deliver?," from the April 2013, Volume 21 edition of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. The prize is given to the best original paper published in any communication networking journal sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society during the previous three calendar years. Drs. Yi and Chong will receive the prize at the IEEE ICC 2016 conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 24th.
